Schnur

Loretta A. Schnur, 82, of Butler, passed away, Saturday evening, April 29, 2023, while residing at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.

She was born May 26, 1940, in Butler, and was a daughter of the late John H. Callihan and Helen (Unking) Callihan.

Loretta graduated from Butler High School in 1958, and was a homemaker and mother.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, also their Christian Mothers and the C.D. of A marching band, where she played trumpet. She had volunteered for church and school activities, had made rice for St. Mary’s fish fries for more than 20 years, and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts.

She enjoyed painting ceramics, bowling, sewing, trips to the casino, and spending time at their camp.

Surviving are her children, Dan and Ruthann Schnur of Butler, Roy and Joan Schnur of Mechanicsburg, Tim and Virginia Schnur of Cabot, Theresa and Curt Tosi of Butler, Mark and Pam Schnur of Butler, and Maria and Rick Shaffer of York, Pa.

She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren with two more expected; one great-great-grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; one sister, Carol (Sam) Gregor; two brothers, Fran (Karen) Callihan and Hal (Marilyn) Callihan; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean P. Schnur, whom she married July 11, 1959, and who passed away on May 26, 2019; two brothers, Ed McKinney and John Callihan; one sister, Ida Grove; and one great-granddaughter.

SCHNUR — Friends of Loretta A. Schnur, who died Saturday, April 29, 2023, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.
