JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley senior Jack Graham signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Youngstown State University.
A second baseman, Graham hit .379 for the Raiders last season with an on-base percentage of .455. He also is a three-year letterman as a running back in football.
Graham carries a 3.25 grade-point average and has been nominated for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.
JOHNSTOWN — Brittney Miller, a Slippery Rock High graduate and senior midfielder for the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown women's soccer team, was named an honorable mention on the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-star team after recording two goals and two assists this season.
GUADALAJARA, Mexico — U.S. Women's Open champion Paula Creamer shot a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Norway's Suzann Pettersen Friday in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.Creamer birdied two of the final three holes to reach 10 under on the Guadalajara Country Club course. Pettersen had a 65, matching Meena Lee for the best round of the day.
NEW YORK — The New York Mets fired their longtime clubhouse manager Friday amid a police investigation into illegal gambling.The Mets said Charlie Samuels was fired for violating team policies. The club said the decision came after an internal investigation that lasted several months.This season was Samuels' 27th year on the job.
