Get ready for a new kind of holiday show and sale at The Art Center.

Unlike other exhibits there, this time guests may purchase items and take them home immediately, and contributing artists can replace sold work. Therefore, the exhibit will be rotating throughout its run ending Dec. 31.

"This year's holiday show includes unique and original works of art that make great Christmas gifts for the family," said Paul Scanlon, AABC president.

"There are traditional paintings, photographs and smaller objects d'art such as note cards and wood-turned or handmade wooden pieces that include custom-made, traditional gift favorites like yo-yos, keepsake boxes, kaleidoscopes and spinning tops," he said.

Gift certificates for holiday art classes are available as well. Classes begin Dec. 6. Most are 90 minutes and cost $10. The holiday classes are specially designed for students to complete Christmas gifts or decorations to take home after only one or two classes, Scanlon said.

In addition to the main show, a pair of art students, Rachael Wiefling and Haley McKinney from Slippery Rock University, are exhibiting work in the Members Gallery. Their exhibit consists of bold acrylic paintings, photography and organic sculptures made of recycled objects.

"Haley previously won Best of Show at the AABC Nature and Wildlife exhibit, and Rachael is becoming well known for her unique style of creating bold, colorful paintings," Scanlon said.

Both artists graduated from Knoch High School, Wiefling in 2004 and McKinney in 2007. And both are pursing bachelor's degrees in fine arts at SRU. Wiefling, in her fourth year of college, is a transfer student to SRU, while McKinney is in her third year at SRU.

"Our show is called 'Recollection.' It is a collection of both of our works of art; our pieces relate to each (other) because our inspiration came from the memories of our childhood growing up in the country and always being outside around nature," Wiefling said.

Works for sale range in price from the $3 note cards up to several hundred dollars for paintings and larger works.
