Ruth (Newman) Wilk
Ruth (Newman) Wilk, 78, of Cranberry, died peacefully with the loving comfort of her family in her home on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, after a short battle with cancer. Ruth was born Nov. 19, 1938, the daughter of the late Joseph Newman and the late Ruth Zimmerman; stepdaughter of the late Josephine Beck. Married Dec. 26, 1956, to her surviving husband of 61 years, Donald Wilk, with whom she raised six children: Victoria (Fred) Belack of Gibsonia; Janet (Tim) Swope, children: Brittney & Michele of Florida; Michael (Jennifer) Wilk, children: Kid, Craig & Dylan of Wyoming; Stephen Wilk of Newport Beach, California; Donald Wilk Jr. of Cranberry; and Kenneth (Akiko) Sachs, children: Gabriel & Christopher of Cranberry. Surviving siblings are Margaret (Herman) Foster; Betty Miller; Jim (Babs) Newman. She will also be missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews. Parishioners of St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church in Cranberry, she and her husband were active in the community, volunteering as Brownie, Girl Scout, and Cub Scout troop leaders. Ruth managed the girls softball teams for the Cranberry Athletic Association, and assisted her CAA board member husband with special events. She was a freelance writer with a monthly column, “Reflections,” featured in the Point North Magazine and had a long career in nursing at North Hills Passavant Hospital. Most recently she loved attending her “Contemplative Prayer Group” at St. Ferdinand’s. Kind, caring, compassionate and generous, she certainly lived up to her name. Spending time with family, friends and neighbors was essential to her. She will be deeply missed. Her beauty in body and spirit will endure in the loving memories of those she touched.
WILK — Memorial service for Ruth (Newman) Wilk, who died Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, will be held at Living Faith Bible Church, 28 Rolling Road, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066 at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. Donations can be made in Ruth’s memory to the Living Faith Bible Church.
