Betty Jean (Herman) Slack, 85, of Zelienople passed away Wednesday while under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born Jan. 1, 1927, in Zelienople, she was the daughter of the late Jay B. and Mary Stella (Gross) Herman.

Betty was a member of English Lutheran Church, where she would volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She was a former Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School cafeteria employee and was the friendly face who managed the snack bar at Zelienople Community Park for many years.

During her free time, she loved playing bridge and bowling with the Monday afternoon bowling league, but above all she cherished the time spent with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her three loving children, Patricia Jenkins and her husband, Rick, of Richmond, Va., Peggy Kohler and her husband, Harvey, of Zelienople and Robert Slack and his wife, Bonnie, of Harmony; her six adored grandchildren, Ross Jenkins and his wife, Kacie, Stefanie Abernathy, Mathew Kohler and his wife, Megan, Craig Kohler, Kevin Slack and his wife, Jennifer, and Gregory Slack and his fiancée, Amber; and five precious great-grandchildren, Justin Abernathy, Mathew Kohler, Mackenzie Kohler, Kaylee Stine and Logan Slack.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, M. Robert Slack, who passed away March 21, 1997; her stepmother, Margaret Herman; and her brother, Robert H. Herman.

SLACK — The family of Betty Jean (Herman) Slack, who died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Avenue, Zelienople.

A funeral ceremony will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday at English Lutheran Church, 200 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople with the Rev. Robert A. Keplinger officiating. Friends, please meet at the church. She will be laid to rest at English Lutheran Church Cemetery.
