TIME CAPSULE

Grillin' for the gridders

Members of the Butler High School varsity football team hit the chow line after a full day of training on Aug. 25, 1971, during a weeklong training camp at the high school. Players and coaches stayed overnight in the gym during the camp, where the evening meals were provided by the newly formed Butler Quarterback Club. Serving the 1971 squad are, from right, George (Mike) Kelly, club president; Bob Giunta; Dick McCune; and Don Bayne. The Football Mother's Club served breakfast to the team each morning of the camp, while the school provided lunch. The 1971 team was coached by Art Bernardi, who today serves on the Butler School Board. The high school's football stadium is named for Bernardi.
