Donald Follstaedt

Donald Follstaedt

Donald William Follstaedt fell asleep peacefully in Jesus on Dec. 1, 2021.

Don was the son of the late John P. and Marie (Kroneberg) Follstaedt. He was born on May 14, 1936, at the family home in Hannahstown.

Don graduated from Butler High School in 1954, and continued his education with a five-year Armco scholarship for engineering at the University of Cincinnati. During that time, he co-oped at Armco in Butler. Graduating in 1959, Don continued on at the Butler Armco plant, until being transferred to Middletown, Ohio, in 1961.

On May 11, 1963, he married Carol Reynolds in Middletown.

Don retired from Armco/AK Steel in 1997, after 42 years.

Don loved working outdoors, especially in his gardens, and indoors, especially with woodworking. His family uses and displays many of his special projects.

He participated in several sports, including the Armco research baseball team, an Armco golf league and a church bowling league. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to visit family.

Those who knew him know that Don's life and choices were most importantly, a faithful and unwavering witness to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Upon moving to Middletown, he immediately found a church home at Messiah Lutheran Church. His dedicated service started by helping them build their new sanctuary in 1964, and continued for 42 years in various capacities, but notably as financial secretary and elder.

Family devotions and church involvement, especially worship, were the priorities of his vocation as husband and father. The Lord blessed him with a wife, children and grandchildren, who found much joy in sharing this faith with him. His service from 2004 until his death was at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Reynolds Follstaedt; and their three children, Deborah (Charles) St-Onge of Montreal, Canada, Ann (Michael) Smith of Franklin, Ohio, and Pamela (Brent) Adams of Cincinnati, Ohio; his grandchildren, Olivia and Sophia St-Onge and Trinity Adams; his sisters, Elaine (Dennis) Gaiser of Petrolia and Marilyn (Carl) Schubert of Irvine, Calif.; his brother, Gene (Norma) Follstaedt of Urbana, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Wayne Follstaedt and Ken Follstaedt.
