Seven members of the Slippery Rock University football team were named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West squad Monday.

Senior nose guard Brian Godfrey, who earned first-team honors for the third successive season, was the only Rock defender named to the first team.

Godfrey had 25 solo and 11 assisted tackles, 6½ tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks and a fumble recovery this year.

Senior defensive end and Seneca Valley graduate Mike Jennings, who led the PSAC with eight quarterback sacks, was named to the second team.

Jennings had 14 solo tackles and 12 tackles for loss this season.

Offensively, senior center Pat Oster and junior return specialist Josh Kniess were named to the first team. Kniess was also named to the second team at running back for the second straight season.

Kniess averaged 18.8 yards per punt return and rushed for 1,183 yards.

Joining Kniess on second-team offense are sophomore kicker Ryan Daniel, junior guard Don Harbison and senior H-back Brandon Richardson.

Daniel scored 62 points, hitting 10 of 15 field goal attempts and 32 of 35 PATs. Richardson had 46 catches for 676 yards.

SRU finished 4-7 overall, 2-4 in the PSAC, and returns 71 players from its 86-man roster in 2005.

Three area volleyball players made all-conference for their respective college teams.Knoch graduate Elaine Voltz, a sophomore middle hitter at Penn State-Behrend, was named first-team All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. She led her team with 466 kills and had 120 digs.Teammate Ashley Ordy, a senior defensive specialist, led the squad with 656 digs and made second team All-AMCC. Tara Dudash, a senior defensive specialist from Slippery Rock, was an honorable mention.Voltz's twin sister, Jennifer, made second-team All-Centennial Conference at Dickinson College. She had 883 assists and is fifth on the school's all-time list with 957 career assists.

Kirk Schwab of Harmony teamed with Wade Adams of Tidioute to win the Allegheny River Bass Buddy Tournament in Franklin recently.The duo brought in four bass with a combined weight of 13.29 pounds during this live-release competitive event. There were 22 two-person teams competing.

Julie Quail, Katie Ritchey, Nicole Reges and Dara Nielsen played key roles in helping the Penn State-Behrend women's soccer team to finish the season with a 14-6-1 record.Quail, a freshman forward from Seneca Valley, was tied for second in goals scored (nine) and points (22). She played in every game, starting seven.Ritchey, a freshman midfielder from Butler High, also played in every game and started 16. She finished with six points, including a pair of goals. Nicole Reges, a freshman defender from Butler, saw action in seven contests.Nielsen, a sophomore goalkeeper from Seneca Valley, made five starts, winning three and had a 0.85 goals against average. She made 14 total saves.

LONDON - The five cities looking to host the 2012 Summer Games submitted bids to the International Olympic Committee on Monday, entering the final stage of a long process in hopes of landing one of the biggest prizes in sports.Paris, the front-runner to win next year's vote, turned in documents, as did London, Madrid, New York and Moscow. Each book totals more than 550 pages, allowing the IOC to evaluate venues, security, transportation, hotels and financing.The IOC evaluation commission travels to the candidate cities early next year, and will give its recommendations to the 100-plus IOC members a month before they vote by secret ballot in Singapore on July 6.
