Lee Roy McCandless
Lee Roy McCandless of Butler, left this world on Monday, April 17, 2023, at home two days before his 65th birthday with his best friend and love of his life for 32 years, his wife, Cathy, by his side. Cancer was the only thing that could steal this mountain of a man from his family.
Lee retired from Shields Asphalt Paving. He may have paved a road in every state this side of the Mississippi, but his true labor of love was his farm. He was a seventh-generation beef cattle and potato farmer. He spent his entire life on the farm and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Lee is survived by his wife, Cathy; his daughters, Deana (Jeremy) Smith, Raycine (Hunter) Zendron, Hailee (Wesley McCurdy) and Abigayle; his son, LeeAllen; his spoiled dogs, Butch and Libby; his granddaughters, Ava, Sophia, EmmaLee, Fallon and Kentlee; his granddog, Kimber; four siblings; and his in-laws, Howard “Hub” and Agnes “Vernie” Brehm, who truly loved and adored him as their son.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bernice “Donna”; and an infant son.
His life was overrun by “his girls,” who knew how lucky they were to have him as their foundation and thought he hung the moon. They will carry on his legacy and his farm. He loved black coffee, flea market and estate sales, and reading the newspaper. He seemed to know someone everywhere he went and was loved by all. He could fix or build anything. His favorite rides were his John Deeres and his Harley.
He was a crack shot that never missed and a champion motocross racer.
MCCANDLESS — The life of Lee Roy McCandless, who died Monday, April 17, 2023, will be celebrated in private on his farm as he wished.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you sit by the campfire with your loved ones and have a slice of apple pie on Lee.
