State police have charged a Mars man with driving under the influence after he crashed into a police cruiser, injuring the officer inside.

According to state police, Darrin Coulson, 52, of Mars drove his Chevrolet Silverado into an Adams Township police cruiser at around midnight on May 17.

He was reportedly attempting to make a left turn while the officer had a green light.

Patrolman Mandy Mudrick, 32, received minor injuries and was treated at UPMC Passavant before being released shortly thereafter.

Coulson was not injured.

Police responding to the crash said that he admitted to drinking a sufficient amount of alcohol “as he was coming from a restaurant” and that later blood tests showed his blood alcohol content to be at 0.212 percent.

It is illegal to drive with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or more.

Coulson is charged with traffic violations, careless driving and two counts of driving under the influence.
