L. John Toth
L. John Toth, 77, passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 15, 2023.
Born June 30, 1945, in Cheswick, he was the son of Louis and Thelma (Moore) Toth.
He graduated from Fox Chapel High School, and went on to pursue a degree in elementary education at Clarion University, where he was a proud member of the Theta Xi fraternity. Upon receipt of his graduate degree, he taught in the South Butler County School District at Winfield Elementary School for 32 years.
After retirement, he traveled the country as a writer of children’s activity books for Amtrak, logging over 200,000 rail miles. He loved travel, reading, crossword puzzles, silly songwriting, good doughnuts, dogs, social justice, the beach, and quiet time with the people he loved most.
Surviving are his children, Becki Toth (Matt Rush), Jonathan Toth and Betsy Groves (Tim); two adoring grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews in Texas, Florida, Ohio and Pittsburgh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet Toth; his sisters, Nancy (Punkin), and Gaye (Puz); and his brother, Kelly (Sonny).
TOTH — No public service will be held for L. John Toth, who died Saturday, April 15, 2023.
The family will be celebrating his life privately.
Arrangements were entrusted to PITTSBURGH CREMATION AND FUNERAL CARE in Robinson Township.
