Event to replace Saxonburg arts festival a go
SAXONBURG – The event conceived by the Saxonburg Area Business Association to replace the canceled Saxonburg Festival of the Arts in September apparently has the support of borough council.
Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to approve closing Main Street for the association’s three-day event, which is being called “Minglefest.”
Main Street will be closed from Pittsburgh to Isabella streets from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8; from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9; and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Council canceled the arts festival for many reasons, the most impactful being a lack of volunteers.
But the business association was loathe to forego the sales and exposure that accompany each year’s festival, so it created its own.
Phil Wain, association president, told council last month that Minglefest would be similar to the arts festival and provide food, craft and other vendors.
Main events, such as live music, will take place under a large tent at South Butler Community Library.
The event will be held in tandem with Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market’s Octoberfest, which is held at the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department grounds.
Costs for services such as security, trash collection and portable toilets will be shared with Octoberfest, Wain said.
