Middlesex Twp. revisits Overbrook Road culvert

MIDDLESEX TWP — The township is moving forward with installing a new culvert on Overbrook Road, according to information shared by supervisors at Wednesday night’s meeting.

In June, supervisors asked township engineer Jeff Mikesic to gather specifications for installing the culvert just past the Middlesex Crossing development area.

In July, Mikesic told supervisors he estimated work conducted for the project’s surveying, mapping and permitting through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection would cost about $7,850. Supervisors then voted to continue the permitting process.

The project permit process is underway, according to Mikesic Wednesday night.

Mike Spreng, supervisors chairman, told the board he inspected the problematic culvert further.

“I got down in there and looked at it,” Spreng said. “There is a failure inside the pipe.”

Resident David Herman, who was at the meeting, said he lives along Overbrook Road. He agreed repairs are necessary.

“That pipe there running under the road is totally inadequate,” Herman said. “I’m not exactly sure what the repairs are, but you need to put in a much larger pipe underneath that road.”

Herman said in a flood stemming from recent bad drainage, he had 42 inches of water in his basement.

“I had to replace my boiler,” Herman said.

Spreng said the township and Mikesic will double check the elevation from the road to Herman’s garage before proceeding with the installation.
