Planets lose 52-51, game goes down to the wire
Mihali Sfanos's driving layup at the buzzer rolled out and the Mars boys basketball team fell to Laurel Highlands in the WPIAL Class 5A championship game, 52-51 on Friday night at the Petersen Events Center.
Mars led 51-50 after a Sfanos steal and layup with 25 seconds left.
But Laurel Highlands took the lead for good with 4.8 seconds left on a pair of free throws by Rodney Gallagher.
After a pair of timeouts, Sfanos drove to the hoop and put up a running righthanded layup before crashing to the floor.
