Betty Jo Silsby
Betty Jo Silsby, 80, of Butler, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at her home.
She was born in Bradford, Pa., on Jan. 4, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Everett Silsby and Thelma Silsby Southward.
She graduated from Northern Potter High School in 1960. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1961.
During her 23 years in the Navy, she became a pioneer as the first female data processing chief master in the history of the Navy. She had earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
She is survived by two sisters, Susan Schoonover of Butler and Marie (Jeffrey) Williams of New Tazewell, Tenn.; two brothers, Curtis (Brenda) Silsby of Sparta, Wis., and Stuart (Amanda) Silsby of Coudersport, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
SILSBY — Out of respect for her wishes, there will be no visitation for Betty Jo Silsby, who died Monday, April 10, 2023.
A military service will be held at a future date at the family’s discretion.
