Facing an increase in cases and in concerns about the Delta variant of COVID-19, Giant Eagle plans to reinstate mask-wearing in all of its locations.

By the end of this week, all employees and customers in Giant Eagle, Market District and GetGo stores will be asked to wear masks indoors, by Aug. 4 for employees and Aug. 6 for guests. The rule applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

According to a statement, Giant Eagle team members will be present at stores to provide complimentary masks to customers who may not have one with them, and curbside and delivery services are still available.

Giant Eagle is “actively reviewing paths forward” for requiring vaccination for all employees, and is already putting more toward resources to educate employees about getting vaccinated.

“Through these and other efforts, we can all do our part to keep our communities healthy, our local businesses thriving and our students and teachers in the best possible position for the upcoming school year,” a statement read.
