Joe Herold

Joe W. Herold, 87, of Butler passed away at 9 a.m. Monday at his home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1926, in Butler, to the late Edward Herold and Hazel (Youkers) Herold.

Mr. Herold worked in the pollution control department at Armco until his retirement in 1986, following 42 years of service.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows 278, Connoquenessing, for over 50 years. He was an avid archery hunter, especially hunting bear. He spent many hours woodworking, making toy cars and trains for friends and family. Mr. Herold lived for going to his camp, hunting and spending time with his family.

Mr. Herold is survived by his wife, Laura Alice (Stephenson) Herold, who he married Nov. 21, 1944; one son, Ed Herold and his wife, Suzie, of West Sunbury; two daughters, Mary Parise and her husband, Frank, of Greenville, Pa., and Linda Barto and her husband, Les, of Chicora; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Werner of New Galilee, Pa., Veva McConnell of New Castle, and Hazel Jane Webb and her husband, Walter, of Butler; two brothers, Lawrence “Sunny” Herold and his wife, June, of Butler and Walter Herold and his wife, Sally, of Princeton, Pa., and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Frankie Parise; and two sisters, Pearl Daufen and Edna Kelly.

HEROLD — Friends of Joe W. Herold, who died Monday, May 13, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Joel A. Benson of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.
