Daniel P. Catalfano Sr.

Daniel P. Catalfano Sr., 87, of Butler passed away Wednesday afternoon at Concordia at the Orchard from a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Jan. 24, 1927, in Butler, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lena Morabito Catalfano Sr.

He was employed for 40 years in the Maintenance Department of VA Butler Healthcare.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Portsmouth. Dan was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.

He was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 778, the VFW Post 249, and the Meridian Vets Club.

Sports were important to Dan. From 1945 to 1950, he played football, basketball and softball for the Butler Cubs.

An avid Penn State football fan, Dan, along with his son and daughter, traveled to all of the Nittany Lions' home games. Dan was also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He is survived by his son, Daniel P. Catalfano Jr., and his wife, Marilyn, of Butler; his three grandchildren, Nicole Catalfano, Christopher Catalfano and his wife, Amanda, and Lori Brady and her husband, Tim, all of Butler, and his two great-grandchildren, Alex and Gabbi Catalfano. Several brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Mancino Catalfano, who passed away on April 18, 2004; his daughter, Linda Catalfano, who passed away on Feb. 1, 2007; his father, Joseph Catalfano Sr., who passed away on Feb. 22, 1987; his mother, Lena Morabito Catalfano, who passed away on June 2, 1999, and his brother, Joseph Catalfano Jr., who passed away on July 10, 1984.

Catalfano — The friends of Daniel P. Catalfano Sr., who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at theMartin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
