Charges filed in substation theft

CRANBERRY TWP — An Ohio man and his girlfriend are facing numerous charges for allegedly stealing copper from an electric substation on Route 19.

The theft caused more than $60,000 in damages at the substation and a major power outage for thousands of customers in June.

Cranberry police believe the two are part of a ring of thieves that has stolen copper wire from other electrical substations and cellular towers in several locations in Ohio.

David A. Heddleston, 36, of Toronto, Ohio, and his girlfriend, Barbara Marie Ours, 30, of Salineville, Ohio, are both facing charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking, risking a catastrophe, defiant trespass, criminal use of a cellular phone and receiving stolen property.
