World War II veteran William F. Parker, 87, of Cabot, formerly of Lower Burrell, passed away Thursday in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

He was born Aug. 23, 1925, in New Kensington to the late Rev. William P. and Blanche (McLaughlin) Parker.

Bill had lived in the Lower Burrell area most of his life, until moving to Concordia 17 years ago.

He was a 1943 graduate of Arnold High School. He had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lower Burrell and currently a member of Cabot United Methodist Church. Bill was a member of the American Legion in Saxonburg.

He enjoyed biking, reading and gardening. He and his wife traveled throughout the United States for over 15 years. Bill was a talented harmonica player who enjoyed playing individually or in groups for the nursing home. Another great activity for him was to build large dart boards and playing darts with the resident dart club at Concordia.

Bill was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as an aviation ordinance man in World War II.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jill K. Parker.

Survivors include his wife, Florence (Smith) Parker, formerly of Lower Burrell; one son, Kip F. Parker and his wife, Carl Sober, of Parks Township; one daughter, Colleen Longo and her husband, Rocco Longo, of Duxbury, Mass.; two grandsons, Parker Longo, 24, and Tyler Longo, 20, both of Duxbury, Mass.; and one sister, Lois Bavera of Indiana, Pa.

PARKER — At the request of the family of William F. Parker, who died Thursday, March 28, 2013, there will be no visitation and burial will be private.Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Concordia Haven II Chapel, Entrance 5, 148 Marwood Road, Cabot, with the Rev. Jack Hartman and the Rev. Matt Judd officiating.Memorial donations may be made to Cabot United Methodist Church Building Fund, 707 Winfield Road, Cabot, PA 16023.Arrangements by FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell.
