Norma Savannah
In loving memory of our beloved mother and grandma, Norma Savannah, who left us one year ago today.
I look at my Mom and her hands speak of love.
What she’s done with those hands, are gifts from above.
They learned love from Grandma, to cook and to mend.
Those hands carry messages with the cards that she sends.
They’ve worked milking cows and cutting off corn.
They’ve cradled us babies from her body were born.
They’ve washed millions of dishes and scrubbed immense floors.
They’ve baked loaves of bread and did untold chores.
They’ve test for fevers, dug out splinters galore.
They’ve combed curls into hair that the four of us wore.
They’ve hunted for bugs in the corners of eyes,
And “my, oh my”....have they ever baked pies.
Those hands have played games and shared of her money.
They’ve ‘scrabbled’ the words, and made crafts quite funny.
Momma’s hands are not wrinkled and spotted with age.
They still wipe a tear or turn a Bible page.
They lend themselves for help to anyone near.
They hug children closely so they wouldn’t fear.
They extend to the people who haven’t a friend.
A kindness without measure their heartache to mend.
They wave to each neighbor and lightly embrace,
A gift she’d be offering from the farm place.
They still do the dishes and still cook the food.
Not waiting around till they’re in the mood.
These hands speak so gently of the Love of the Lord.
Of the treasures we’ll have, that for us He has stored.
These hands come together to offer up prayers,
With faithful submission with all of her cares.
I look at these hands. Each line speaks of love.
A gift from my Lord...not hidden in gloves.
I’ve grown to admire what those hands have done.
In the seventy years with the help of God’s Son.
I don’t see the wrinkles. I don’t see the age.
I know a life’s story is seen on that page.
These hands have been broken and now frequently bruise.
Each time I see them, they cause me to muse.
I take my example, from hands so expressive.
To imitate hers, the message impressive.
What I find at the touch of her hands
Is tenderness, love, and never demands.
I oft find them folded, in offering prayer.
Remembering someone who has needs to bear.
Thanks for the lessons I’ve learned at your hands.
Thanks for opening my eye’s to God’s plans.
Thanks for the caring and loving immense.
Those hands so expressive...that love so intense.
Thanks for finding the one whose hands yours did wed.
Thanks for each guidance together you led.
Thanks for the love you allowed us to know.
Thanks for the boundaries for life’s way to go.
Thanks for leading us all to the Lord.
For showing us all how GREAT His reward.
