Smith

Donna Smith, 69, of Butler, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, April 4, 2023, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.

She was born on Nov. 22, 1953, in Pittsburgh, and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Gladys (Gloughnour) Smith.

Donna graduated from Point Park College and ICM School of Business.

After graduation, she worked with International Students at Point Park College and Carnegie Museum Library. Later, Donna worked on various archaeological surveys and excavations in Western Pennsylvania.

She also published an article on the early Allegheny Erie Indians, assisted Dr. Bryan Gordon of Quebec, with research on the Paleo Indians in Western Pennsylvania, and worked closely with Dr. Stanley Lantz on archaeological research papers.

Donna was a member of the Ohio Valley Archaeological Chapter of SPA, and was the previous chair of the Archaeological Award Committee of the Society of Pennsylvania Archaeology. She was accorded the Cowin Award in recognition of her many volunteer efforts. Along with her love of archaeology, Donna also enjoyed researching geology, anthropology and genealogy.

She loved to hunt, fish and hike. She also enjoyed photography, a passion that won her several awards.

Donna is survived by her longtime companion, Dr. Stanley Lantz; and her extended family.

In addition to her parents, her sister, Gail Smith preceded her in death.

SMITH — Family and friends of Donna Smith, who died Tuesday, April 4, 2023, will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.

Her service will follow immediately in the funeral home.
