Cruise-A-Palooza likely to fill Butler's Main St.
The Rodfathers of Butler group is gearing up for its 14th annual Cruise-A-Palooza, which will be 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday along Main Street.
"It is the biggest one day event in Butler County," said Rodfathers vice president Dave Landis. "It's a free, family oriented day to get out and look at the old cars and come back with a nostalgia about how things used to be."
Hundreds of classic cars are expected to line the street and the first 300 vehicles will receive a dash plaque.
There will be free entertainment and food vendors all day.
"We have 20 food vendors at Diamond Park with everything you can think of to eat," Landis said.
There will be a 50/50 raffle drawing at 7:30 p.m., with the proceeds going to the American Diabetes Association.
The entertainment starts at 12:30 p.m. with a band called Nervous Energy, Landis said.
The Legends, a Dayton, Ohio, based oldies rock band, will take the stage from 2 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Johnny Angel and the Halos will follow from 5 to 6 p.m. and 6: 30 to 7:30 p.m.
In addition to the live performances, DJs will play records every two blocks down Main Street. The side streets will be available for parking.
Landis expects thousands of visitors, depending on the weather.
"We're just hoping for a beautiful day again,"he said. "We've only had one bad weather day in the 14 years we've been doing this."
The Rodfathers' 35 members put on about 14 car cruises each year, but Cruise-A-Palooza is their main event, Landis said.
It is a significant Butler County attraction and something the Rodfathers look forward to all year, he said.
"When you look down the street, all you see is a sea of people,"Landis said. "This is our major event of the year."
In connection with Cruise-A-Palooza, the Butler County Historical Society will have its buildings in Butler open on Sunday.
The Butler County Heritage Center, the Little Red School House, and the Lowrie/Shaw House will be open for tours that day.
