Woman jailed after she allegedly removed monitor
A Butler woman was caught nearly a week after authorities say she removed her electronic monitoring ankle bracelet.
Sarah S. Schoeffel, 39, was on the lam until she turned herself in about 11:10 p.m. Sunday at the Butler police station.
District Judge Bill O'Donnell later arraigned her on a felony charge of escape. She was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bond.
Butler County detectives last week got an arrest warrant for Schoeffel after she turned up missing Aug. 26 when staff for the county's community monitoring program discovered her device had issued a tamper alarm.
County probation officers eventually tracked down the ankle bracelet, which was found on the westbound ramp to Route 422 from Route 356. in Butler Township. Evidence indicated the device had been cut off.
According to court records, officials placed Schoeffel on electronic monitoring Aug. 23 as part of the conditions for her participating in drug treatment court in Butler County.
