Butler track rolls past North Hills

Butler’s Landon Lacey turned in the sixth-fastest 200-meter dash time in school history Monday at North Hills — running the event in 22.45 — and the Golden Tornado’s 400-meter relay group of Chris Rubcic, Landon Lacey, David Graef, and Ryan Porch posted a time of 43.34. That time was good enough for the fifth-fastest by any Butler foursome.

Butler’s boys track and field team came out on top in a section meet against the Indians, 110.5-39.5, at Martorelli Stadium.

Freshman Logan Rogers placed first in the 1,600-meter run (4:52.38) and senior Joshua Aspelin in the 400-meter dash (54.22). Owen Dressler won the 3,200-meter run (10:10.26)

Butler’s 3,200-meter and 1,600-meter relay squads also won. The former was made up of Dressler, Rogers, Zachary Slear, and Drew Knight; while the latter consisted of Aaron Stebich, Rubcic, Knight, and Lacey.

Ryan Porch (high jump), Troy Ritson (pole vault), Luke Campbell (long jump, triple jump), Ethan Babay (discus), and Markeis Frazier (shot put) won in field events.

On the girls’ side, Butler won 15 of 18 events in defeating North Hills, 120.5-29.10.

Lauren Bowden won the 300-meter hurdles and 200 meters. She also ran a leg of the winning 4x400 relay, joining Avalon Dietz, Rylee Jack and Madison McGarrah.

Megan Baggetta won the long jump and triple jump for the Golden Tornado. Her triple jump of 38 feet, 11.5 inches is among the top 25 in the United States this season. McGarrah won the 800 meters, Jack the 100 meters.

McGarrah, Adraya Baxter, Madalyn Semmler and Ava Brewster won the 4x800 relay. Dietz won the 400, Brewster the 1,600. Tornado winners in field events included Grace Nichols in the high jump, Evelyn Paserba in the pole vault, Lauren Beneigh in the shot put and Carlie Baker in the discus.

Butler (3-0) will compete in Thursday’s Butler County Classic at Freeport.
