Amputee, paralyzed vets reminded of pension

The state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is reminding eligible veterans they may qualify for a monthly pension through the state’s Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension program.

Veterans in Pennsylvania who qualify for the pension can receive $150 per month.

Currently, 2,000 veterans across the state are enrolled in the program.

To qualify, applicants must have:

* been a resident of Pennsylvania when they entered the military

* received honorable or under honorable conditions discharge

* suffered a service-connected injury or incurred a disease that resulted in the loss or loss of use of two or more extremities

* at least 40% disability compensation rating in each limb per the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
