Coast Guard Lt.
Edward Semler Jr., son of Laverne Semler of Butler, recently retired after 25 years of active-duty service between the Coast Guard and the Army. He was serving as the enlisted work force team leader assigned to U.S. Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C.Throughout his career, Semler served in various billets, including a tour aboard the USCGC Dependable homeported in Cape May, N.J., as the assistant engineering officer; a tour aboard the USCGC Sherman homeported in Alameda, Calif. as the command master chief and main propulsion supervisor; and a tour aboard the USCGC Tampa homeported in Portsmouth, Va. as the main propulsion chief.During his career, he received several personal awards, campaign ribbons and medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal with operational "O," two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal.Semler joined the Coast Guard in July 1982.
