KC softball wins slugfest

Lyrik Reed and Addison Burrows both had five of Karns City’s 27 hits as the Gremlins out-lasted Redbank Valley, 15-14, in softball play at Diehl Stadium on Thursday.

With the game knotted at 14 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jada Polczynski’s two-out single scored Jess Rodgers with the winning run.

Jessica Dunn doubled twice and homered while driving in five runs for the Gremlins (2-2).

Quinn White went 5-for-5 for Redbank, doubling three times and hitting a home run.

A-C Valley/Union 13, Kane 3 — Emerson Stevens singled twice, doubled, scored two runs and drove in four as A-C Valley/Union thumped the Wolves in a five-inning game played Thursday at Heindl Field in DuBois.

Bella Ielase had three hits, doubling twice, scored twice and collected two RBI.

The team’s 16-hit onslaught also included two hits from Rylan Strauser and Maddy Dehart.

Kiski Area 4, Knoch 3 — The Cavaliers topped the Knights on a walk-off,

Lindsay Edwards, Madi Gardner and Sylvia Luffy each had multiple hits while Edwards and Lizzie Danik each drove in a run.

Luffy allowed just two earned runs in defeat.

Freeport 16, Karns City 6 — Abby DeJidas had three hits, including a double, to go with three RBI to lead the Yellowjackets to victory on Wednesday.

Jayden Rezak added three singles and three runs batted in and Reese Selker doubled twice and drove in one to aid the win.

Sydney Selker and DeJidas combined to strike out 10 batters in the circle.

Addison Burrows tallied 12 strikeouts for the Gremlins.

Track and Field

Sophia Bonetto won the 800- and 1,600-meter runs and also helped the 4x800 relay team to victory as Karns City’s girls downed Keystone, 84-43, in a meet shortened by weather on Wednesday.

Chloe Fritch finished first in both hurdle events while McKenna Martin captured the 100 and 200 dashes.

Butler 3, North Hills 2 — Ben Busler and Jackson Morgus both won in singles play as did the duo of Thomas Sheptak/Wyatt Morgus at No. 1 doubles as the Golden Tornado won this match Wednesday.
