Slepski back with BlueSox
Butler graduate Tyler Slepski is among four pitchers returning to the Butler BlueSox this season.
Slepski, a junior at Mercyhurst University, pitched briefly for the BlueSox last season. He allowed two runs in 7.2 innings pitched in winning the final game of the regular season.
Pitching for Mercyhurst North East last spring, Slepski fashioned a 1.95 earned run average over 60 innings as the team’s top starter. He transferred to Mercyhurst’s main campus this year.
Other returning pitchers are Slippery Rock University junior Jon Anderson — a Grove City High graduate — University of Buffalo junior Ben Hartz and Radford University sophomore Austin Ross.
Anderson led the BlueSox in innings pitched in 2013. He had a 2.17 ERA in 10 starts.
Hartz had a 2.27 ERA for Butler last season, ranking second on the BlueSox’ staff. Ross had 42 strikeouts out of the BlueSox bullpen last year — most among relievers in the East Division — and had a 1.36 ERA with nine saves.
Two position players are returning for their third season with the BlueSox — Grove City High graduate and Kent State outfielder Alex Miklos and University of Cincinnati catcher Russell Clark.
The BlueSox open the season Wednesday at Jamestown, N.Y. Their first home game is May 28 against the Champion City Kings at Kelly Automotive Park.
