The anticipated winter storm that never quite measured up to forecasts has still affected some Butler County school districts.

Motorists are also urged to be cautious of slick spots on roads.

But for now, all winter storm warnings and hazardous weather advisories have been canceled. So, too, has PennDOT lifted the temporary restriction on certain vehicles and restored the speed limits on Interstates 79 and 80 in the northwest region.

As of this morning, however, vehicle restrictions remained in effect at Tier 1 of the commonwealth's weather event vehicle restriction plan for Interstates 86 and 90 in Erie County. Speed limits are restricted to 45 mph on these roadways for all vehicles, and commercial vehicles not affected by the bans must move to the right lane.

The latest information for school closures includes Allegheny-Clarion Valley, two-hour delay; Butler, no school; Butler County Vocational Technical, remote learning; Freeport, two-hour delay; Karns City, remote learning; Mars, remote learning; Moniteau, remote learning; Seneca Valley, remote learning; Slippery Rock, no school, flexible instruction day; South Butler, remote.

Classes at Butler County Community College are canceled all day and evening, and Slippery Rock University has moved to remote learning.

Fear of possible power outages because of freezing rain or ice on lines or trees also has not materialized.

As of 7 a.m., the only outage in the county was reported by West Penn Power in Muddy Creek Township in the area of Pleasant Valley and East Portersville roads.

According to the utility's website, 11 customers are without electricity due to service interruption from tree damage. Power was to be restored by 1 p.m.

The forecast today is for a chance of snow showers later this afternoon with temperatures falling to around 20 by 5 p.m. Winds of 10 to 15 mph could gust as high as 26 mph.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 8. On Wednesday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 23.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh noted that another winter storm could move through the Ohio Valley on Thursday and Friday. Advisories or warnings may be needed depending on forecast snowfall totals.
