Edward Pfeifer III
Edward John “Ed” Pfeifer III, 73, of Mars, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday morning, March 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Originally from Millvale, and educated at Kent State University and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, Ed was a licensed funeral director at E.J. Pfeifer Funeral Home in Millvale, started by his grandfather, where he worked for 13 years. He was a former supervisor at Frank DeBor Funeral Home in Brookline, and in 1977, he moved his family to Mars to own and operate the Walters-Pfeifer Funeral Home until 1982. In 1986, he and his wife purchased Mars Hardware to establish what is now Pfeifer Hardware Inc., providing service to the Mars area for the past 37 years.
Always active in the Mars community, Ed was past president of the Mars Kiwanis Club, was a life member of the Adams Area Fire District, was a social member of the Mars VFW, and had served on the Quality Ambulance board of directors. He also belonged to the Syria Shrine and Consistory, NACO Caravan, was a member of Corinthian Lodge 573, and was a life member of the NRA.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth A. Goetz Pfeifer, whom he married on Sept. 27, 1969; his son, Edward IV (Stacey) of Mars; his daughter, Melissa Stobert (Rhett) of Sarver; his adored grandchildren, Alex, Amanda, Adam, Clayton and Andrew; his sisters, Mary Kay Miller and Sandra Seidl; and his brother, Thomas (Linda).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. Pfeifer Jr. and Annamae Pfeifer.
The Pfeifer family wishes to sincerely thank Laura Goetz (sister-in-law), Heather Dodd and Jennifer Nulph, along with the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, whose loving hearts and gentle hands aided Ed’s peaceful exit from this world.
PFEIFER — Friends of Edward John “Ed” Pfeifer III, who died Friday, March 24, 2023, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023, at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, with the Rev. Brian Hauser officiating. Please meet at the church.
Interment will be at Mars Cemetery in Adams Township.
Memorial donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
