Frank G. Sabin
Frank G. Sabin, 88, of Harrisville, passed away peacefully at Orchard Manor on March 18, 2023, after being a patient there for one week.
Frank was born April 2, 1934, in Harrisville, and was the son of the late Morris and Stella Olesky Sabin Como.
He was a proud graduate of Harrisville High School.
Frank married Norma McCandless on Jan. 16, 1954, and together the couple had four children.
Frank served in the Army Reserve in Butler, and then for 28 years in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He belonged to Battery A, 1/229th Field Artillery, located in Grove City, where he served as first sergeant.
Frank owned his own construction business, Frank Sabin Contracting, and completed hundreds of aluminum/vinyl siding, roofing and window replacement jobs throughout the region. He was happiest when working with his hands.
Having been born and raised in Harrisville, Frank always was proud to be from this small town. He was elected to serve on the borough’s town council and did so for more than 40 years. For many of those years, he served as borough council president. He cared deeply for his community.
Frank was a die-hard Steelers fan. For over 20 years, Frank’s son-in-law, Steve, would pick him up at 6 a.m. every Sunday when the Steelers were playing at home for a morning of tailgating, followed by four quarters of Terrible Towel waving in the stadium. Win or lose, there was always a good story to share.
Another passion of Frank’s was golf. He was a member of the Tri-County Thursday Night League, held at Pine Grove Golf Course. Many friendships were forged over two irons, bogeys and a few shanks — but mostly over a cold brew.
Frank belonged to American Legion Post 852. He was a member of the VFW 519, and also the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 1895.
Frank never met a keyboard he didn’t like. No matter where he was, if there was a piano in sight, he would soon be sitting in front of it, playing and singing away. Friends and even strangers called him “the Piano Man.” He would sit and play for hours. He was blessed with a natural ear for music and required no sheet music to play any song. His ability was not limited to the piano; accordion, guitar, violin — he could play them all.
His biggest joy in life was his children and grandchildren. He loved attending all of their sporting events and hearing about their achievements. He took great satisfaction in knowing that they all received a college degree and have successful careers in their chosen fields.
Loved ones left to cherish Frank’s memory are his children, Sam Sabin and his wife, Yvette, of Boyers, Stephanie Campbell and her husband, Steven, of Grove City, and Stan Sabin of Harrisville.
Frank also leaves behind his grandchildren, Erin Sabin of Delray, Fla., Chad Campbell and his wife, Erin, of Milroy, Pa., Christa Frankenburg and her husband, Zack, of Grove City, and Caitlin Campbell of Phoenixville, Pa.; and one great-granddaughter, Nora Mae Campbell.
Frank’s half-brother, Mike Como of New Bedford, Pa., also survives.
Frank was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; his wife, Norma; his son, Frank G. Sabin II; his sister, Pauline Montgomery; and his half-brothers, Jake Sabin and Harold “Hershey” Sabin.
