Eugene “Gene” Yough, 86, formerly of Chicora, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 11, 2022, at Givens Estates in Asheville, N.C.

Eugene was born on April 14, 1935, to Francis Eugene and Elsie Alberta Mortimer Yough. He lived in Chicora until 2020, and then moved to North Carolina to be near his oldest daughter.

Gene married Harriet Day in Petrolia on Aug. 28, 1954.

He retired from Witco Chemical Corporation in Petrolia, after 44 years of service.

He enjoyed being in the outdoors, whether it was hiking through the woods, or watching his beloved grandsons playing baseball and soccer.

Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Roome and her husband, Stan, of Asheville, N.C., and Ginger Roupe and her husband, Chuck, of The Villages, Fla.; and a son, Matthew Yough and his wife, Georgia, of Chicora.

Also surviving are four grandsons, Nathan Roupe of The Villages, Fla., Bill (Brandy) Roome of Asheville, N.C., and Matthew Yough and Tyler Yough, both of Chicora; one great-grandson, James Roome of Asheville, N.C.; three sisters, Darla Fennell of Chicora, Beverly (Chuck) King of Chicora, and Rita Cumberland of Butler; one brother, Dennis Yough of Chicora, as well as a number of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Yough; his son, Rodney “Skeet” Yough; a sister, Donna Edwards; a brother, Gary Yough; two infant siblings, Marilyn and Robert; and a number of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

YOUGH — Local funeral arrangements for Eugene “Gene” Yough, who died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022, are under the direction of HILE FUNERAL HOME OF CHICORA.

A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date and will be held in Chicora.
