Former Young Artist winner finishes season
Butler County Symphony Orchestra presents the final concert of its 63rd season at 7:30 p.m. April 14 at the Butler Intermediate High School Auditorium.
The theme for this season is “A Night of …” and this concert will focus on “A Night of Remembrance.”
The featured guest artist is saxophonist Aaron Patterson, who was the symphony association's Young Artist winner in 2002.
Patterson, originally of Carlisle, Cumberland County, is studying saxophone performance at the Manhattan School of Music. He holds a bachelor's in music education and a master's in saxophone performance from Indiana (Pa.) University. He is an arts-in-education outreach doctoral fellow, Center for Music Entrepreneurship doctoral fellow, and graduate assistant.
Patterson is the alto saxophonist of the Manhattan Saxophone Quartet. He will play Fernande Decruck's “Sonata in C for Saxophone and Orchestra.”
The concert will open with “Sabre Dance,” “Lullaby,” and “Dance of the Young Maidens.”
The orchestra also will play “Titanic,” a composition about the crowd of passengers stranded on the deck as they were calmed by the playing of ragtime, waltzes and, finally, hymns.
Guest conductor will be Matthew Kraemer, one of three guest conductors this season up for the job of permanent conductor and music director.Kraemer is resident conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.Tickets are available at the symphony office, 259 S.
