To close out its season, the Butler County Symphony Orchestra will perform a “Far Away Places” concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.
Guest artist Enrique Graf, a pianist from Uruguay, will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major.
Matthew Kraemer, the symphony's musical director and conductor, will host a preconcert lecture at 6:30 p.m. that will include an overview and snippets of the music as well as insight into its meaning and symbolism.
Donations of nonperishable food items will be collected at the concert and distributed to local food banks.
Tickets are available at the symphony office, 259 S. Main St., or by calling 724-283-1402. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $18, or for $20 at the door. Student tickets are $5.
JEFFERSON TWP — This year's Rock at Knoch Battle of the Bands will be from 6 to 11 p.m. May 3 at Knoch High School.Applications are being accepted for the annual show.There is no entry fee and the bands will be given 25 to 30 minutes of playing time. The winner of the battle will be determined via a voting ticket system.The bands will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. All band members must be younger than 21 on the date of the show.Applications are available at Guitarworks Music, 1099 Pittsburgh Road.Deadline is April 19.
HARRISVILLE — The Harrisville Community Band will perform its annual spring concert at 7 p.m. April 19 in the Harrisville Fire Hall.The band will play a variety of songs including “Tritsch Tratsch Polka,” “If Thou Be Near,” “Aladdin,” “Hootenany” and “An American Spectacular.”Jim Jaskowak, Grove City Middle School music teacher and resident of Jackson Center, directs the band.Admission is free. The volunteer firefighters will have refreshments for sale by donation.
