James Gallagher
James “Jim” Keith Gallagher, 81, of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 17, 2023, with his family by his side.
Born in Butler on Oct. 19, 1941, he was the son of Samuel G. and Mary E. Gallagher of East Butler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Robert C. Gallagher, Ardeth Gay Gallagher Weiland and Linda Gallagher, all from East Butler.
Jim was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1961 to 1964. He was stationed primarily in Germany, which he had fond memories of.
He worked for the Butler Area School District in the maintenance department for over 20 years, retiring in 1996, and loved being around the children and staff. After retirement, he continued his service to children by being a bus monitor for those with special needs.
Jim married Margaret Orth in 1966, and had one son, Keith R. Gallagher, who resides in Tarpon Springs, Fla., with his wife, Jamie Burke Gallagher.
Always known as a jokester, he loved to make people laugh and was always telling stories and playing tricks, but was also very charitable and quick to help anyone in need.
He was loved by many, but was adored by his three granddaughters, Hannah Elliott, Makenzie Elliott Shaw and Olivia Elliott, and his great-granddaughter, Mabel Shaw.

His ashes will be buried in Florida at one of the Veterans National Cemeteries.
