Robert L. Winkler, 85, of Saxonburg passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born on Jan. 25, 1928, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of Earl A. Winkler and Mazie Read Winkler.

He graduated in 1946 from Timken Vocational High School in Canton, Ohio.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-52 as a sergeant first class in the 987th Field Artillery Medics Battalion.

He had worked for Diebold Safe and Lock as a sales administrator, the Crown Cork and Seal as a sales representative and district manager, the Pennsylvania Refining Co. in Karns City and then he was transferred to Kobe, Japan, as general manager of the Japanese branch and the main office in Osaka, branches in Tokyo and Fukuoka. They returned to Butler in 1975.

He retired from the Penreco Division of Pennzoil as vice president of international sales and marketing in 1990.

He was a member of the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Butler Country Club, the Rocky River, and the Ohio Lodge 703 F&AM of Ohio.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Mast Winkler, who he married on Jan. 5, 1951, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph A. Winkler, and his niece, Dianne Winkler Price.

WINKLER — There will be no visitation for Robert L. Winkler, who died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. A public memorial service will be at the Butler Country Club at 11:30 a.m. Saturday followed by a “Happening” of Life. Private graveside services will be at the East Lawn Cemetery, Sugarcreek, Ohio.Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001 or to the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O.
