Former officer under investigation

LANCASTER TWP — A former township police officer is being investigated by the state police for an undisclosed incident.

Officer Dave Sitler is under criminal investigation, according to Butler County District Attorney Rich Goldinger and state police trooper Dan Kesten.

“I don’t know if he’ll be charged with anything,” Goldinger said. “I know he had been suspended by the township for the incident.”

Goldinger and Kesten would not comment on the nature of the allegation.

Goldinger and township officials did not confirm or deny Sitler was dismissed from the police department.

Sitler, who has served the department close to two decades, was replaced by officer Mike Cornell, who would not comment on the issue.

The alleged incident is being investigated by the state police after the matter was brought to the district attorney’s office.

“I know they (township) are negotiating a settlement with him (Sitler), but I haven’t heard anything official,” Goldinger said.

Township officials were not available to give comment.

“Unfortunately due to the legal nature of the issue at hand, at this time all questions are to be brought before the Pennsylvania State Police or the Butler County District Attorney,” township zoning officer Benjamin Kramer said.
