Fred A. Karlovich

Fred A. Karlovich, 86, formerly of East Brady died Sunday at St. Barnabas Nursing in Gibsonia.

Born Sept. 17, 1930, in Commodore, Pa., he was the son of Nicholas and Mary Fayak Karlovich.

A veteran of the U.S. Marines, Fred served during the Korean War.

On June 26, 1965, Fred married the former Janet Wible, who survives.

A graduate of Green Township High School, Fred lettered in basketball, football and track. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania on the GI Bill and earned his bachelor's degree. He later attended Penn State University for a master's degree.

Fred began a career in secondary education teaching at Brookville High School for three years and later East Brady High School teaching typing, accounting, business math, business English, word processing and business law for 31 years. He was chairman of the yearbook committee, the attendance officer, the Morgan Scholarship coordinator and sold tickets at East Brady Bulldog football games with his wife, Janet.

Fred was a faithful member of St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church in East Brady where he was a lector and usher. He also served on the Parish Council and volunteered for church dinners and other events.

Throughout his life, Fred enjoyed traveling; journaling; writing and researching genealogy; yard work; gardening and projects around the house; reading, especially the daily newspaper; and time spent with family and friends. Fred was always interested in learning about others and was always willing to lend an ear.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Karlovich of Gibsonia, and two sons, Eric Karlovich of State College, Pa., and Brian (Joelle) Karlovich of Canonsburg, Pa. He also is survived by two grandsons, Benjamin and Matthew Karlovich, both of Canonsburg; and two brothers, Edward (Marcia) Karlovich of Grand Rapids, Mich., and George (Kay Lon) Karlovich of Clymer, Pa.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Ann.

KARLOVICH — Friends of Fred A. Karlovich, who died Sunday, April 16, 2017, will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady. A parish prayer service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. William Kuba officiating.
