Amy Raabe

Raabe

Amy Sue Daugherty Raabe, 55, of Franklin Township, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her family by her side on Saturday, March 11, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Butler on Oct. 20, 1967, she was a daughter of Charles Marshall Daugherty and the late Carol L. Dunn Daugherty.

Amy graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1985, and received her associate degree from Butler County Community College in 1987. After raising her family, she decided to go back to school to pursue the study of dietetics and nutrition. She obtained her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in December of 2010 and was the class commencement speaker. She went on to earn her master’s degree from IUP in May 2013.

With her degrees and the professional credentials of registered dietitian and licensed dietitian nutritionist, Amy joined the faculty of Youngstown State University and taught dietetics. She was a proud mentor to many of her students. She had a passion for sports nutrition and pioneered the creation of the YSU Athletics sports nutrition program. She also served as the director of the YSU dietetic technician program.

She was a member of Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church.

She loved spending time with her family, the beach, her flower shop, physical fitness, trains, playing golf, and driving her orange Jeep. Her proudest moments were watching her children compete throughout their respective sports careers and cheering them on at every event.

Amy also loved Oakland Raiders football, even in hostile Pittsburgh territory. She was such a faithful and dedicated Raiders fan, she even traveled across the country to attend a game in Oakland.

Amy is survived by her husband, Kenneth Charles Raabe Jr., whom she married Oct. 16, 1993; her children, Colten Marl Raabe and his wife, Amanda Jane, of Butler, and Hallie Sue Raabe of Butler; her father, Charles Marshall Daugherty of Butler; her sister, Kathy Ray and her husband, Patrick, of Butler; her brother, Jeffery Daugherty of Butler; and her brothers-in-law, Gerald Raabe and his wife, Michelle, of Butler, and Scott Matson and his wife, Valerie, of Knox.

She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
