ZELIENOPLE — The first "The Taste of Historic Zelienople and Harmony" on Monday will feature area restaurants and their cuisine.

The event is sponsored by the Zelienople-Harmony Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kaufman House, where it will held.

Nicole Gordon, catering manager at the Kaufman House, said her restaurant has been part of similar events hosted by the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce and thought why couldn't the Zelienople-Harmony chamber do the same thing.

Gordon took her idea to the Zelienople-Harmony chamber and to the Kaufman House's owner and they supported it, Gordon said.

She said it's an opportunity for people to mingle and enjoy the food and the atmosphere.

About 15 restaurants, wineries, bakeries and beverage vendors will provide samplings of their food, beverages and other products.

A wine tasting will be provided by Rustic Acres Winery of Butler and beer tasting by Yuengling.

There will be a Chinese auction that will include Pittsburgh Pirates tickets, gift cards, a wine gift basket, jewelry, furniture and other items.

"The purpose of the event is to bring restaurants together in the area and give people an opportunity to get to experience something they may not have tasted before," said Meg Kessler, executive director of the chamber.

The money the chamber raises from the event will benefit nonprofit groups.

"This is our first event, so you never know. We have high hopes that the community will come out and support us," said Kessler, who added the chamber hopes to make "The Taste of Historic Zelienople and Harmony" an annual event.
