Charles Wedge

Charles Arthur “Bud” Wedge Jr., 95, of Evans City, passed away from natural causes on Thursday while under the care of the VA Butler Medical Center.

Born in Swissvale Jan. 18, 1920, he was the son of the late Charles Arthur Wedge Sr. and Eleanor Steele.

Bud was a faithful member of St. John's United Church of Christ. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in engineering and was a former president of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He owned and operated Beahm's News Depot for more than 30 years. Bud retired in 2002, at 82 years of age, as an inspector in the Department of Weights and Measures for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

He was a member of Infinity Lodge 546 F.&A.M., the Rotary Club and American Legion of Evans City, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle and a past commander of the Legion of Honor of the Syria Temple. Bud was also past president of Butler Caravan 14 and a former board member of the planning commission of Jackson Township.

He loved to play the bugle with the Legion of Honor in their parade activities. In the last six months of his precious life, he developed a passion for playing bingo. He will be most remembered as a gentleman farmer, a voracious newspaper reader and a family man. Bud will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 65 years, June (Beahm) Wedge, who he married May 6, 1949; his four loving children, Barry (Ruby) Wedge, Jamie (Richard) Wisniewski, Joyce Wedge and Jill (Mike) Bemis; five grandchildren, Heather, Brian (Cherry), Bridget, Jason and Nicole; his great-grandchild, Connor; his sister, Rose Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his two sisters, Dorothy and Virginia.

WEDGE — The family of Charles Arthur “Bud” Wedge Jr., who died April 16, 2015, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Boylan Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Connoquenessing Township, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.A funeral ceremony will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Verna Call, officiating, followed by military honors.He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bud's honor to the Office of Development, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33607.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralhome.com.
