Carl Gordon Dougherty Sr.
Carl Gordon Dougherty Sr., 86, of Vandergrift, formerly of Butler, died Saturday in Bel Air Nursing Home, Lower Burrell.
He was born in Freeport on Feb. 20, 1926, to the late Samuel J. and Edna Wise Dougherty and had lived in Vandergrift the past three years. He had previously resided in Butler.
A truck driver, he worked for Neil Tomer Trucking and previously drove a milk route for Bill Brown. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a seaman first class.
Carl was a member of the Lower Burrell American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing and television and was a loyal member of the Steeler Nation.
Survivors include his children, Deborah Ann (Joseph) Orr of New Kensington, Barbara J. (Bo) Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla., James A. Dougherty of Lower Burrell, Carla Sue Dougherty (Brian McMeans) of Lower Burrell and Michael W. (Malissa) Dougherty of Natrona Heights; and 10 grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl G. Dougherty Jr.; brothers, Joseph and James; and sisters, Annie Burns, Luella Parkinson, Dorothy Eddinger, a sister at birth and infant twins.
DOUGHERTY — Friends of Carl Gordon Dougherty Sr., who died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St., Lower Burrell, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Dana Perkins of the New Beginnings Methodist Church.Burial with military honors by the Tarentum VFW will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
