David McDowell
David Norman McDowell, 76, of Harrisville, passed away at Quality Life Services of Grove City on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
He was born in Grove City on Jan. 25, 1947, to Norman Fillman (Red) McDowell and Ada Mae (Duncan) McDowell.
David married Linda Lucille McGirr on Feb. 17, 1968.
David graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1965 along with his future wife, Linda.
David retired from General Electric in Grove City, where he worked in the test cell.
He was a charter member of the Slippery Rock Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He was trusted with the benevolence ministry of his church as a deacon. It was a role he served with compassion and consistency.
David was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 183rd Aviation in Vietnam. He was proud to fight for his country.
Dave loved sports including golf, bowling, hunting, running his beagles, and watching the Steelers. He had two field champion beagles and was a member of the Sharpsville Beagle Club. He also had a 300 game bowling and a hole-in-one golfing.
He was gracious and generous to his friends and family. He followed his grandchildren’s activities attentively and encouragingly. He was always ready to help others.
Most of all he loved his Lord, his wife and his family.
David is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, the joys of his life, Amy (Troy) Mack of Harrisville, and Annette (Michael) Doerflinger of Slippery Rock; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Rei) Kulp, Jacob Kulp (Jasmine Smith), Christopher Mack, Michael Doerflinger II, Lexi Doerflinger, Hunter Doerflinger, Melissa Kulp, Jonathan Kulp and Josef Kulp; his great-grandchildren, Jeriah and Jocelyn Kulp; four sisters, Gertrude (Robert) Steffes, Esther (Chris Yochens) McDowell, Nancy Rally and Joan (Andrew) Wilson; and two brothers, Richard McDowell and Andrew (Jennifer) McDowell.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
MCDOWELL — The family of David Norman McDowell, who died Wednesday, March 8, 2023, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
