John K. “Rebel” Wheeler
John K. “Rebel” Wheeler, 74, of North Washington passed away Saturday at his home.
John was born June 22, 1942, in Shreveport, La. He was the son of the late James Arthur Wheeler and the late Pauline Eudora McClabb Wheeler.
John proudly served his country with the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and as a medic with the Army Reserves. He retired from the melt shop at Armco, where he worked in the maintenance department. John was also employed as a paramedic with Butler Ambulance (21).
He was a member of the North Washington United Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder. John was also a member of the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Campbell Wheeler, whom he married Sept. 4, 1965; one daughter, LeeAnn (Braden) Campbell of Eau Claire; two sons, Lonnie Wheeler of Hooker and Les Wheeler of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Sondra Kay Wheeler of San Antonio, Texas.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dudley Wheeler.
WHEELER — Friends of John K. “Rebel” Wheeler, who died Saturday, July 30, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the North Washington Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Clyde officiating, assisted by family friend, the Rev. Robert V. Mathias.Military honors will be provided at the church by VFW Post 249 of Butler, American Legion Post 117 of Butler and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.
