Girl Scouts have been celebrating national Girl Scout Week for decades, and that held true for the scouts in 1970.
More than 100 people attended an anniversary celebration hosted by Girl Scout Troop 431 on March 9, 1970 at St. Conrad Church hall in Meridian. The scouts welcomed guests at the door, performed a flag posting ceremony, sang “Johnny Appleseed” and had a candlelight awards ceremony for people in attendance.
As part of the ceremony, scouts received badges and 11 girls received special awards for perfect attendance, according to the March 11, 1970 edition of the Butler Eagle.
The program concluded with the singing of taps and the friendship circle.
