Outlaws Late Models coming to Lernerville
The World of Outlaws Late Model series returns to Lernerville Speedway Friday with $20,000 going to the winner.
Time trials begin at 7:15 p.m. with racing slated for 8 p.m. The feature will be 60 laps.
The WoO Late Models last visited the Sarver track April 29 with Billy Moyer winning a rain-shortened feature. The race was scheduled for 50 laps, but only 25 got in before the rains came.
Moyer held off Darrell Lanigan to get the victory.
Lanigan did come away with Lernerville's fastest-ever lap time for a Late Model at 15.072 seconds. Chuck Harper held the previous mark of 15.58 seconds, but 14 cars surpassed that during the April 29 time trials.
Lernerville regular David Scott of Garland was one of the 14 to beat the previous record. Scott went on to finish 10th in the feature, marking the best showing of any local driver.
Friday's feature will mark the highest first-place purse for a Late Model race in Lernerville track history. The previous-high pay-out was $10,000 when the Outlaws were there last year.
The total purse money for Late Models this Friday will set a new track standard as well.
Dale McDowell won the 50-lap WoO Late Model feature at Lernerville in August of 2004. Chub Frank won the WoO Late Model feature at the Sarver track in April of 2004.
Steve Francis comes to town as the WoO Late Model points leader with 3,730. Moyer is 28 points behind him.
Rounding out the top 10 are Rick Eckert, Tim McCreadie, Frank, McDowell, Lanigan, Josh Richards, Clint Smith, Dan Schlieper and John Blankenship.
Richards, known as Kid Rocket, is from Shinnston, W.Va., and has driven 70 percent of the WoO series this year as a 16-year-old.
Lynn Geisler of Cranberry Township leads the Lernerville Late Model points race by 10 over John Flinner of Zelienople. Nick Jones, Mike Blose, Ken Schaltenbrand and Scott are other local drivers expected to be competing Friday night.
The Pure Stocks will also be on Friday's card with a 15-lap feature.
