Pearl Ellenberger
Pearl Terwilliger Ellenberger, 97, of Salt Springs, Fla., formerly of Bruin, passed away Thursday.
She was born in Perry Township, Clarion County, on Feb. 12, 1915, to Peter Henry and Mary Annetta (Conner) Terwilliger.
Pearl married Charles Albert “Ab” Ellenberger on Dec. 25, 1937, in Aaronsburgh, Centre County, by the Rev. Greising, pastor of St. John Reform Church. They had been married for 58 years at the time of his passing in 1995. Pearl and Ab lived in Bruin for 55 years.
Pearl graduated from Parker High School and Clarion Teachers College, now Clarion University. She taught school for 30 years beginning her career in Perry Township, Clarion County, and concluding in the Karns City School District. She retired in 1982.
A woman of deep faith, Pearl was a former member of Martinsburg Presbyterian Church USA, where she taught Sunday school and was an active participant in the Goodwill class. She was most recently a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Parker.
Pearl was a life member and golden star member of Parker City Chapter 60 Order of the Eastern Star. Pearl was the oldest living past matron. She served as worthy matron and district deputy of District 3 of the Grand Chapter of PA. Additionally, she served on several grand chapter committees. Pearl helped to organize the Rainbow Assembly of Chicora and served on the advisory board for many years.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Pearl took great joy in spending time with her family. She was an avid card player and especially enjoyed playing bridge. Pearl and Ab loved to travel. They belonged to the National Camper and Travelers organization and visited many places in the U.S. They traveled overseas on several occasions. Most recently, Pearl volunteered at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Salt Springs, Fla.
She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Sheila Ellenberger of Cambridge, Ohio, and Becky (James) Ayers of Harrisville; her daughter-in-law, Edee Norsworthy Ellenberger of Bakersfield, Calif.; her four grandchildren, Chris Gabriel, Melissa Gabriel (Jason) Morris, Ben Ellenberger and Tom (Angelina) Ellenberger; and her two great-granddaughters, Shayla Gabriel and Caitlyn Morris.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Charles “Chuck” Walter Ellenberger; one infant daughter; and all of her siblings, Campbell Conner Terwilliger, Vera Mae Keefer, Peter Kline Terwilliger Sr., Curtis Adrian Terwilliger, Edna Leannetta Wile, Wayne Eugene Terwilliger and Doris E. Terwilliger.
ELLENBERGER — Visitation for Pearl Terwilliger Ellenberger, who died Thursday, May 10, 2012, will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the
H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Wayne St., Parker. An Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Final services will be held at the funeral home at 3 p.m. with H. Jack Buzard and the Rev. Richard Anschutz officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations honoring Pearl Terwilliger Ellenberger be made to the Guernsey County (Ohio) Hospice, the Butler County Public Library, the New Concord (Ohio) Public Library or the Marion County (Fla.)
