BUTLER TWP — A Families Forever Seminar, hosted by Lifesteps and Family Services of Butler Memorial Hospital, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at Lifesteps, 383 New Castle Road.

The seminar will focus on minimizing the effects of divorce on children.

A program for children in grades one through six will be held simultaneously.

Cost is $50 for adults and free for children. Childcare is available for children 6 weeks through 5 years old.

MIDDLESEX TWP — The Lighthouse Foundation will begin its next term of Faith Tech computer classes on Feb. 6. Classes are taught at the foundation, Route 8, seven miles south of Butler.The free classes are taught two hours per week for six weeks. LYNDORA — The Butler Christian Women's Club will host a Sparkle 'n' Shine Continental Breakfast from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave.The breakfast will include a presentation of glass creations by Glass Blowing Center owner Tom Doner, music by Flora Cowan and a presentation by guest speaker Doris Ortman.Cost is $3 and reservations can be made by calling 724-482-4041 or 724-452-9331, or by sending an e-mail to mtack@zoominternet.net or betty232@zoominternet.net.

PLAIN GROVE, Lawrence County — The Plain Grove Grange will host a public square and round dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Jan. 14 at the East Lawrence Elementary School, Plain Grove Road.Music will be provided by the band Country Tradition and the caller will be Ken Meals.

The Butler County Chapter of the American Red Cross will host the following courses during January.First Aid for Cats and Dogswill be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 21. Cost is $35 and includes basic skills for caring for pets with life-threatening conditions.Babysitter Trainingfor youth ages 11 to 15 will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28. Butler Memorial Hospital will host the program "Look Good…Feel Better" from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 20 at the hospital.The free program is open to women undergoing cancer treatment and is lead by volunteer cosmetologists.Participants will learn makeup techniques and how to use turbans, scarves and other accessories.Notices, in writing, of festivals, fundraising events, newly elected officers and other news from clubs and nonprofit groups should be sent to the Focus department one week in advance of the event.
