Rock men clinch first-round bye
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to four games in defeating Edinboro. 81-79, Wednesday night at Morrow Field House.
With the win, The Rock was able to secure a PSAC playoff first-round bye, taking its record to 19-7 overall and 16-3 in conference play.
Five Rock players scored in double digits, including Nolan Gerald who led the way with 24 points and five rebounds, while Jared Armstrong racked up 18.
The Green and White shot 40.5 percent from the field, including seven treys.
Women
Edinboro 88, SRU 77 — Ciara Patterson notched 20 points in a losing cause to lead The Rock.
SRU has dropped four of its past five games in sliding to sixth place in the PSAC West standings with a 10-15 overall record, 8-11 in conference play.
Brooke Hinderliter scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for The Rock while Madison Johnson racked up 15 tallies with nine rebounds and two steals.
Jontay Walton lead the Fighting Scots with 25 points and eight rebounds, while Michaela Barnes netted 24 points.
Both Rock teams will be in action Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Johnstown. The women will tip-off at 1 p.m. while the men will start at 3 p.m.
